Fellows Trip to Arezzo

On May 17th, the Fellows ventured to Arezzo to visit works of Piero della Francesca in the Basilica San Francesco and the Cathedral of Santi Pietro e Donato, followed by a gelato at the award-winning gelateria Violetta.
Composer Linda Buckley (CRF 2016) stands in front of a statue of Guido Monaco, 11th century Benedictine monk and music theorist credited with the invention of modern music notation.
Sharing insight from her recent publication, Feathers from the Angel’s Wing: Poems Inspired by the Paintings of Piero della Francesca, Executive Director Dana Prescott reveals the wonders of the Bacci Chapel in the church of San Francesco, home of Piero della Francesca’s fresco cycle detailing the Legend of the True Cross.
The Fellows admire the Romanesque church of Santa Maria della Pieve, whose intentional asymmetries and idiosyncracies were designed to ward off evil spirits.
