Civitella Welcomes 2010 Interns

Briana Keating has joined Elisa Ladduca as a 2010 intern at Civitella Ranieri. This will be Briana's third summer at Civitella. She grew up on the coast of Massachusetts and is currently a student at the University of Toronto majoring in Criminology and Sociology. At Civitella she especially enjoys meeting and learning about the works of a diverse group of artists from around the world, as well as the opportunity to witness how the rich environment of Civitella and the individuals here influence the creative process. Briana also relishes the chance to explore the Umbrian hill towns and all of the history and art that they hold. She will work with us until the end of July.

In early August, our third 2010 intern, Barbara Johnson, will arrive.

Barbara was born in Dallas, Texas and has been traveling around the world since she was 9 years old. She has lived in Los Angeles for most of her adult life where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree with honors in English Literature at Whittier College. She has studied at Franklin College, Switzerland and most recently at Lorenzo de Medici in Florence with a concentration in Italian language and Museum Studies. She hopes to advance her studies by earning a PhD in Literature, focusing on how the Romantic tradition has informed the genre of Travel Writing in Italy.

In 2009, Barbara served as a tour guide, extensively researching the 16th century Medici collections of Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio, and she is looking forward to furthering her knowledge of Umbrian museums and Etruscan culture. She is most excited to learn more about the ways artists are inspired by their surroundings and how atmosphere and place impacts the artist’s process.
