Assisi Field Trip

A small group ventured to Assisi for the final excursion of Session 3. The first stop was a small church called Santa Maria dei Bagni, in Deruta. The entire church was built around an olive tree, which can be seen behind the altar. It is said that the Madonna appeared in this olive tree and conducted, and continues to conduct, many miracles.

Each miracle is documented in ceramic tile...

The next stop was the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli. This is the seventh largest Christian church in the world, located just outside of Assisi. There is a catholic church within the larger Christian church that was first erected in the 4th century. Saint Francis restored this smaller church and this is the site where it is said that he committed himself to a life of poverty and worship.

The group poses for a picture outside of Santa Maria degli Angeli...
