Assisi Excursion

On May 31st, the Fellows traveled to Assisi, birthplace of St. Francis, to enjoy the marvelous frescoes in the Basilica of St. Francis and to learn about the saint's history. Following their visit to the tranquil city of Assisi, the Fellows stopped by the Porziuncola, the first church of the Franciscan order.

Outside of the Basilica, the Fellows read the Canticle of the Creatures, a religious song of devotion written by St. Francis in Umbrian dialect in the 13th century.
On the way back to Civitella, the Fellows stopped at the Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Bagni in Deruta, a 17th century shrine containing over 700 votive tiles depicting a variety of miracles from the past 400 years.
