On Saturday, November 2, 2013,
Joan La Barbara (CRF 2013) performed
as part of the opening weekend of the Performa 13 New Visual Art Performance Biennial. The concert drew its name from her 1976 LP
Voice is the Original Instrument and featured Joan, Maja Ratkje, and The M6: Meredith Monk Music Third Generation. These three vocalists are key figures in the musical genre Extended Vocal Technique and are known for their exploration of the female voice.
Joan also contributed the chorus composition and vocal design for Florian Hecker's
C.D. - A Script for Synthesis, which will be performed at the Peter B. Lewis Theater at the Guggenheim Museum in New York on November 9th and 10th.
Performa 13 comprises more than 100 separate new visual art performances across multiple disciplines and continues through November 24.
