On Tuesday (August 21) the entire group traveled to Urbino. We visited the Palazzo Ducale/Urbino National Gallery to observe both the architecture of the building and some of the 15th century art housed there-- such as Piero della Francesca's Flagellation of the Christ, the architect Laurana's The Ideal City, and many examples of intarsia woodwork. Then, after a lunch of Marche regional specialties, we spent some time studying the dynamic frescoes covering the walls of the Oratory of San Giovanni Battista.
