Last Friday, October 28, a small gathering was held at the Civitella Ranieri Foundation offices in New York for a poetry reading and recital by two Civitella Fellows, poet Jorge Esquinca (CRF 2009, Mexico) and composer Manuel Sosa (CRF 2009, USA/Venezuela). Jorge read selections from his 2008 collection of poetry,
A Flash of Cobalt Blue (DescripciĆ³n de un brillo azul cobalto), in the original Spanish as well as Dan Bellm's English translation. In between Jorge's poems, flutist Adam Kuenzel of the Minnesota Orchestra performed two of Manuel's solo works:
Tractus III for alto flute (2008) and
Graphium for flute (2008). Despite the chilly night outside, it was a wonderful, warm evening of beautiful poetry and music. We would like to thank Jorge, Manuel, and Adam for reading and performing, and we'd also like to thank the audience (which included Pat Oleszko (CRF 2011) and Maria Negroni (CRF 2007)) for braving the cold trek out to TriBeCa and being so welcoming and receptive.
