Civitella fellow Marc Ducret is a French guitarist and composer currently living in Copenhagen. A self-taught musician, he became a member of the first French National Jazz Orchestra in 1986, and led his own trio which performed numerous concerts across Europe, Africa, and Asia. Since 1991, his collaboration with saxophonist Tim Berne has made Ducret one of the few European musicians regularly playing overseas. Frequently invited to be a guest soloist by groups, composers and radio programs in Germany, he created his own 10-piece band, “Seven Songs,” exploring the music of the '60s with a very personal touch, and plays regularly with Louis Sclavis and Dominique Pifarely's Acoustic Quartet.
On Wednesday evening Marc played three pieces for his fellow Civitellians and guests and afterwards discussed Nabokov's Ada's place in his music, his passion for literature in general, and the structures of rhythm in his work.
